My Favorite Quote and Resolution Update

This is a quote that I live by. I'm not entirely sure who said this quote originally... When you Google it, several different names come up (I am not one of those names). If you know who said it, feel free to tell me in the comments! Anywho... Let me explain why I love this quote so much.

For a majority of my life, I thought that reaching my goals, and accomplishing amazing things was extremely hard. You couldn't just wake up one morning and change your life, or someone else's! However, after finding this quote on Pinterest and setting it as the background on my phone, I realized that it really is as easy believing to achieve what you're thinking of. When I started to believe in myself, I was able to complete my goals quicker than before, which made me believe in myself more!

Now, this also ties in with one of my New Year's Resolutions! Just in case you don't know which one I'm talking about....

Resolution 3: Develop my confidence so that I'm not afraid to say no or to share my ideas with the world because I deserve to be confident.

Being confident involves having a lot of belief in yourself. (Hmm... That sentence sounds kind of awkward. Oh well, you get what I mean.)  Because I've been looking at everything with the knowledge/belief that I can do simply because it's something I find worthwhile, I've increased my confidence.

In my Government class, we were going to spend an entire week acting as a Legislature. My teacher selected students to fill all of the important roles. One of the roles was Secretary. Now, I know that doesn't sound very exciting, but it was exactly what I wanted to do! In the back of my head I told myself that I could never do it. Sit in front of the class? Take role every day? Read everything to keep everyone on the same page? No way! But then... Everything changed. I believed in myself and my abilities. Now, I'm not saying that it didn't scare the juice out of me when I went to sit up in front of everyone every day to take role! I'm saying that I didn't let my anxiety about making a fool of myself in from of everyone consume me.

When I started out, I believed that I could do it, and that I could do it well. By the end of the week, I knew that I could do it.

THE MAGIC HAS HAPPENED!!

I'm so proud of myself! For the first time in my life, I've used up all the ink in a pen before losing or breaking it!

Just look at it!! Amazing!!

Free Write Friday #2

What you used to do that you don't do anymore

When I was a kid, I used to play tic-tac-toe with my dad every night before going to bed instead of having him read me a book like I think a lot of people did. I had this cute little tic-tac-toe board with Velcro pieces, and I kept it on the floor next to my bed. It was shaped like a lily pad, and instead of Xs and Os it was Frogs and Flies. My dad would come in and sit on the edge of my bed, or he'd bring a chair, and we'd play tic-tac-toe a few times. Every once in a while, he'd be out of town for work or I'd be sick and we wouldn't get to play, and I always had a harder time sleeping those nights. As you can imagine, after a while, I got really good at playing tic-tac-toe, and it was really easy for me to beat my dad at it.

After a few years, I lost the tic-tac-toe board, so my dad and I couldn't really play anymore. I also got more into reading, so I was reading to myself before bed instead of wanting to play tic-tac-toe with my dad. I don't remember specifically when we stopped doing it though... Some of my best memories with my dad are when we were laughing at each other while trying to cheat at tic-tac-toe.

Free Write Friday #1

So here's how this is going to work. I'm going to post a prompt outlined in black, and below it I'm going to put what I've come up with related to the prompt. If you want, you can write your own story or poem or song related to the prompt in the comments below.

What can happen in a second?

This morning, I slept in and missed my first class. I rushed to get ready, and ended up leaving home without my textbooks that I needed. After getting through two of my classes, I stopped in the cafeteria for something to eat and saw my slightly distorted reflection in the plastic above the buffet of food I'd chosen. I looked absolutely horrible. My hair was a mess and my skin looked red and shiny because I hadn't put on any makeup. After I finished getting my food, I went back outside and sat under a tree where I was mostly out of sight from where my fellow students were walking.

When I stood up and went to throw away the wrappers and leftovers from my meal and bumped into someone that I'd never seen before. After apologizing profusely and trying to keep my head down so that my appearance wouldn't be as noticeable. To my surprise, the only thing this stranger said was "I really like your outfit! It looks good on you."

Just like that, my whole mood changed. Yeah, my outfit was really cute! In just a second, my bad day changed into a good one.

Rainy Day and Writing Idea

Today is extremely rainy, and I've been stuck inside for a majority of the day watching movies and burning all of my favorite candles down to the nub. However, I ended up getting into a cleaning mood. So I cleaned my room, my bathroom, the kitchen, the living room...! Like most people, I turned up the beautiful Disney movies that I was watching and sang along to my favorite songs while dancing around with all my cleaning supplies. I think that my dog was the only one who didn't enjoy the endeavor. She hid in the corner of the living room on a pile of blankets.

I've also been thinking about starting a new thing here on my blog. Every Friday (or at least I'll try to have it up every Friday) I'll post a writing prompt and then below I'll put what I've written based on the prompt. Then, in the comments, you guys can write your own things based on the prompt. What do you guys think?

Spring Has Sprung!

I don't know if you've noticed or not... But the snow has gone away! Well, at least it has where I live. Is there still snow in some other places?

I'm so relieved to be free of the freezing cold weather.

There were lots of beautiful flowers on all of the plants and trees, but we had this weird wind storm that blew them all away before I could take pictures of them all. One of my friends was joking that it looks like it snowed again because the sidewalks and streets are all covered in (primarily) white flower petals. There's been an unending amount of rain, but I really enjoy the smell of crisp, rain filled air. It's Spring! And I love it!

What's your favorite thing about the Spring?
