30 Day Challenge: The End

Well, April is on its way out, and so is the 30 Day Challenge that I've been doing. I hope that you enjoyed having me post every day! Ummm... Almost every day, I did miss a few days in the middle.

I really liked being able to be so creative and to be able to talk about so many different things! I've never posted so often in one month before, so there was a learning curve for me to figure out how to manage my time better and be able to keep up the creativity to be able to write so often.

My favorite post over the course of the month would have to be "Me, from Someone Else's Perspective". I had by boyfriend write it, and when I saw what he'd written it made me feel super special and really loved! Maybe I'll have him guest write on my blog every once in a while.... What was your favorite post this month??

For May I'll be back to my normal posting schedule - New Posts every Tuesday and Thursday.

30 Day Challenge: Me, From Someone Else's Perspective

Well I don't know how to start this very well, so here goes.

Hi, I'm the Boyfriend. I'm not entirely sure what she calls me on her blog, as I don't like to pry into it too much because it's her baby. Plus she most likely tell me everything anyway during her days. Let's see, I have to talk about her right? Well what's there to tell about one of the most perfect beings in the world? According to me, she is one of, if not the most perfect people on the planet, and that will never change. She is kind, very sweet, loving, and sometimes stubborn, but in a good way. She loves to watch Disney movies and cute stuff all the time, which until I met her I couldn't stand, but she warmed me up to them. Almost no one could get me out and about, yet when I finally met this girl, we were out and about her town almost every day I was there. And she just texted me lyrics from Frozen right when I'm typing this up. That's my girl. She'd really one of a kind. I love her, and wouldn't want anyone else but.

That's My Love from my perspective.

Dead Week

At my school, this week has been our Dead Week. Here it means something a tad different than it does at other schools because we still have classes all week. Basically it's the same as any other school week, the only difference is that (because it's Dead Week) our professors aren't supposed to give us exams or quizzes. So yes, we're learning all new material this week that will also be on the Final Exam, we're still given assignments, and we're expected to study as well.

All in all, it's the most stressful week in the entire school year! At least during Finals Week we don't have classes and assignments and new material! However, it is super nice that the quiet hours are 24 hours a day, so I don't have to worry about being woken up in the afternoon when I'm given a 20 minute window in which I can take a nap.

As you can imagine, I've been living on caffeinated sodas and chai tea while getting less sleep and getting more stressed. Some of the up sides are the RAs bringing candy and other snacks around to the various study areas to help boost our energy, the quiet hours that I mentioned above, the opportunity to "pet your stress away" with puppies and kitties in the Library, and the support that everyone has for each other.

My school is known for its sense of community that we all feel here. The campus is really large, so there's no way to get to know everyone, but that doesn't matter when it comes to helping each other with anything and everything! You dropped your papers? 20 people are right there to help you pick things up. You sneeze and don't have a tissue? Everyone will offer you one. Want a stick of gum? We all have a pack and would love to give you a piece!

This sense of community is even stronger now that the stress level that everyone is feeling is so high. We're getting together with strangers at tables in the Libraries to help each other study and sharing copies of review packets for others who didn't get their own copy and even buying snacks/food for each other when the energy and motivation is low.

Whenever someone asks me why I chose this school, and why I fit in and feel so happy here, I always answer (first by saying that they have a really good animal science program) that it's the community. With your family, friends, and an entire student body as a support system that want to see you succeed it's one of the best places on earth to be when the stress is high and the positivity is low like during Dead Week.

What's Dead Week like at your school? Let me know!!

30 Day Challenge: My First Concert

I'm not normally one to go to concerts... They're too expensive, popular bands never come to my city because it's in the middle of nowhere so I'd have to travel to them, and it makes me uncomfortable being around that many people at once.

The first and only concert I went to was for a Country band (I don't like country music very much) that I'd only heard of because they did one of the songs for a Disney movie. One of my friends at the time was a huge fan, and she was going to the concert with her whole family! But, as it turned out, her brother had a music program (remember doing those in Elementary School??) the next day so her parents didn't let him go to the concert because he would be too tired the next day to be in the program. Being friends, she asked me to go with her so that her brother's ticket didn't go to waste!

Before going, my mom gave me a set of ear plugs in case I didn't like how loud it was, and some money to get some food for myself there in case they ate so I wouldn't be excluded. I remember my favorite part being the mini donuts that we got before the concert actually started... The whole thing was mainly really awkward for me because everyone knew the song lyrics and I didn't, so I was mainly just there for those mini donuts!

This summer I'm hoping to go to the music festival that's put on in my city because it's outdoors and there are several different stages so not everyone is crowded together. That way I'll hopefully have some better memories of concerts!

What was your first concert like?

30 Day Challenge: Smells

I'm actually really excited about this post! When I first saw the title on the list I wasn't sure how on earth I was going to go about writing this post... But I realized that I can just talk about what different smells remind me of. This is going to be kind of cheesy and nostalgic, but I'm hoping that that's a good thing... Let me know know smells remind you of!

The smell of Pizza and BBQ sauce reminds me of home. Not because we eat a ton of pizza, or because we bbq all the time - but because whenever we have those things together it means that we have friends and family together for something. We'll be watching a new movie, a sporting event, or we'll just have people visiting for fun - our house will just be full of people, and we'll make a whole bunch of great memories there all together.

The smell of sandalwood reminds me of my Dad. I know, I know... Everyone I tell that to says that it's strange, especially since my Dad doesn't smell like sandalwood or anything similar to it! When I was a kid my dad spent a lot of time in India for work reasons, and he'd always come back with things made out of sandalwood. Chess pieces, necklaces, bracelets (he gave me a bracelet, but after a few years I lost it and haven't seen it since) and sometimes his clothes would come back smelling like sandalwood because of being in the same suitcase as the things made from sandalwood.

The smell of fruit mixed with sunscreen reminds me of the summer

The smell of bacon flavored dog treat biscuits reminds me of my dog Lulu

The smell of Orchard Grass reminds me of my guinea pig Pepe

Smells from new clothes and cookies remind me of my mom. We normally go shopping together at thrift stores and consignment shops, which give the clothes a new kind of smell that's specific to those stores. My mom always says that, when we're together, we find the best stuff in those stores! Cookies remind me of my mom because the lotions that she likes the most and wears typically smell like cookies. It's nice to get hugs from my mom just because she always smells like someone you want to be around because, let's be real, who doesn't love cookies?

The smell in movie theaters of popcorn, candy, and fountain drinks reminds me of my Grandma. We LOVE to go see movies together! We both like the same kinds of movies, and we both love spending time together, so it's the perfect combination. I've gone to the movies on my own and with friends - after smelling that movie theater smell I always think "This would be fun to see again with Grandma" or "Grandma would love this movie!"

The smell of leftovers and popcorn reminds me of my dorm room

The smell of flowers reminds me of my college campus

The smell of Zoos reminds me of happiness

No More Summer Plans

You may or may not have noticed that I didn't post anything for a few days last week... Well, that was mainly because I had a whole bunch of things kind of pile up at once and I let my time get away from me.

I applied for an internship at a zoo in my boyfriend's home state with the hopes of gaining a lot more experience. Originally, I knew that my parents weren't supportive of me doing it because of monetary reasons, but I planned on making it happen if I got the internship whether they were supportive or not. Unfortunately (their word, not mine), they didn't give me an internship position. When I got the email, I was glad that I'd applied for the actual paid job at my local zoo where I'd volunteered and done an internship at already.

On Thursday of last week I had my interview with them over the phone. and on Friday they told me that they were offering the position to someone else. I know that the main reason I wasn't given the position was because I wouldn't be able to stay until Mid-September like they needed because of school, but I was still really disappointed.

That internship and that job were the only things I had "planned" for the summer. I guess I thought that if I didn't get one of them I'd be guaranteed to get the other, but I know that's not how these things work.

Now I'm back to square one, which is where I was at at the beginning of last summer as well. I'm breaking out my resume, looking on google, and hoping for the best.

30 Day Challenge: Longing

I can't wait for it to be the summer! This semester is almost over, and I'm so ready to go and be outdoors and be able to sleep in and not worry about my grades! The clear blue skies, green grass, and beautiful trees to sit under to listen to the birds... It all sounds so magical! The summer can't get here fast enough for me.

30 Day Challenge: The Journey

Professor Pet Peeves

Over the course of my first year at college, I've had several different professors that I've liked as well as professors that I haven't liked. This is basically going to be a list of the things some of my professors have done that really bother me! These are my Pet Peeves with College Professors.

  1. Follow your Syllabus! As a student, I have so many things to keep track of, having to keep up with your changes to the Syllabus every week make me really frustrated! When I haven't turned in a paper because you changed the due date 4 times you best believe I'm going to show up at your office hours to get you to let me turn it in
  2. You can't get mad at your students for having low grades when you're not posting our grades so we can see where we need to improve
  3. POST OUR GRADES SO WE KNOW WHERE WE NEED TO IMPROVE!
  4. When someone asks a question, don't start with "In higher learning, this is how you'd answer it" because that isn't helpful AT ALL
  5. You don't have to apologize for swearing in class, it makes everyone feel more comfortable because it makes you seem normal
  6. Doing in class quizzes doesn't make people want to some to class, everyone just shows up at the end of class to take the quizzes
  7. Keep in mind that most students are in several other classes as well as working, so when we're trying to set up a meeting with you please be as accommodating as you can be
  8. Why did you make me buy these textbooks when we never even open them!?
  9. If you want to be my favorite teacher, you have to be enthusiastic about what you're teaching! If you're not excited about the info, then I won't be
  10. Make sure your microphone is turned on! Just because I'm not in the first 4 rows doesn't mean I don't want to be able to hear you

30 Day Challenge: A Day I Felt Truly Happy

A day that I felt truly happy is every day that I get to spend with my boyfriend! Yup, that is the cheesiest answer but it's true! We're hoping to be able to see each other again this upcoming summer, which is going to be the highlight of this year just like it was the highlight of last year when he was able to come and see me last summer!

30 Day Challenge: A Promise I Made

This one kind of makes me laugh, just because I do make promises all the time! I'm one of those weird people who still thinks that a pinky promise is a binding agreement... Hahaha I mainly pinky promise with my Boyfriend about pretty much everything just because I got him to jump on the bandwagon of loving pinky promises.

We'll normally make the other pinky promise that they won't stay up too much later then whichever one of us is going to sleep, or we'll pinky promise when one of us forgets to eat that we'll make sure to eat before a certain amount of time has passed. I think the most recent pinky promise we made was about me promising not to eat to much because it upsets my tummy for several hours, and keeps me from being able to sleep sometimes.

I'm not sure why I think that pinky promises are so important... I guess that, at some point in my growing up, I realized that when someone made a pinky promise they normally didn't mean to keep it, it was just something they'd do to appease whoever they're making the promise to for the time being. For me, I tend to make small things into bigger things compared to how other people view them, so when I realized that I decided that whenever I made a pinky promise I would actually keep it.

What's a promise you've made? You do think that pinky promises should have value? Let me know!

30 Day Challenge: 5 Things I Would Tell 15 Year Old Me

Don't worry so much about what other people think, after graduation you'll never see any of them again

You can wear a dress whenever you want to just because you like them! If you feel more confident in dresses then it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks

Boys are dumb, and what they say to you doesn't change how awesome you are

Even though you don't think you're a very good singer, you should join choir just because it's something that you enjoy as well as being a good way to make friends

Stop plucking your own eyebrows! It's not worth it!

30 Day Challenge: Last Place I Was Lost

To be honest, I get lost really often... Hahaha I'm not very good with directions! Once, back in high school, I was trying to get the the photographer to get my school photo retaken and I got very lost lost to where I was in the wrong county and I had to call my dad to pull up my location off of my phone so he could give me directions.

I think that the most recent time I got lost was going on an unfamiliar journey through campus. A lot of my friends and family told me that the best way to get to know campus would be to just go out and walk around and find my way. However, when you go out on your own to simply walk around campus and try to figure out where things are related to where you live or to the center of campus where all of your classes are, it's really easy to get lost!

To give you an idea of how large the campus is - I live in a really small town that's basically entirely made up of the college campus. The population of this town is always changing as students come and go (the population on the sign as you enter the town is an estimate based off of the maximum capacity of the campus). It would take an hour or two to walk across the whole campus if you walked quickly and never stopped to look at anything or talk to anyone.

Being the person that I am, it freaks me out when I get lost because things aren't going according to the plans that I wrote out in my head before going out. After a while of walking around and not having any idea where I was on campus, I decided that I should start to head back to my dorm to be able to work on homework before dinner. However, getting back to my dorm proved to be a lot more difficult than I'd planned... Instead of walking in a sort of loop, I'd continued to walk farther away from my dorm in an almost straight line which meant that I had a much longer walk still in store before I'd be able to get back home again.

My campus is mainly made up of a whole bunch of hills and trees and foliage that all looks the same... It's beautiful, but it doesn't help you figure out where you're going. After a while of getting myself even more lost, I called one of my friends who lives across the hall from me to see if she could figure out where I was and give me directions. Sadly, she couldn't figure out where I was based on my descriptions, and when she tried to walk to where she thought I was to get me she couldn't find me and went back before getting herself lost.

In the end, I asked someone who was walking by if they could help me out in getting back to my dorm, and they put me on one of the main streets that goes through the center of campus! Which was extremely helpful because I knew how to get back to my dorm from the center of campus!

Are you good with directions? Where was the last place you were lost?

BOOKS ARE THE BEST

www.thriftbooks.com

Thrift Books is an awesome way to get all the books you want within a budget. I've ordered books for school as well as book for fun from this site and they definitely don't disappoint. Plus, you get 15% off of your first order, and any orders over $10 you get free shipping! Who doesn't love a discount, free shipping, and the books on your wishlist!? On their website it says "You can have confidence that the quality book you choose will be sent to you, unless our software tells us that a superior quality copy can be shipped to you more efficiently; then we'll give you can upgrade at no charge" and I couldn't agree more! I've only had amazing experiences ordering and receiving books from Thrift Books. I know that it's really common for websites that sell books for low prices normally have books that you're not interested in reading, but that's not the case with this site! They have every book you could think of, including newer books that people are getting obsessed with. If you love books but you don't love average book prices, this is definitely the site for you - Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

30 Day Challenge: The Way Music Makes Me Feel

Is this another late post? Yes... Yes it is

For the most part, I normally choose the music that matches how I'm already feeling... Which may not be the greatest idea because it helps me stay sad when I'm feeling sad, or stay mad when I'm mad. A lot of the time, music is really calming to me. Sometimes listening to music that matches how I feel makes me feel like my emotions are validated to I can start to stop feeling like that - almost like talking to someone, but I didn't have to say anything.

I know I'm not the only one that does this, but I also choose music based on what I think my background music would be if I was in a movie! Hahaha That sounds so silly! For example....When I'm coming over the hill towards my dorm, I'll often listen to more fast paced and dramatic music because I think that, if that was my big entrance into a movie, I'd want it to be memorable. Yes, that does mean that I sometimes stop before the hill to flick through several songs until I find the one that's perfect for my "entrance" that day.

When it comes to the playlists on my phone, I normally name them whatever the time period is that I'm listening to those songs. I sometimes make playlists for each semester, and at the end of the year I move all of the songs that I loved that year into one playlist to listen to when I want to remember what happened that year. Most of the time I'll listen to those older playlists with my friends, because a lot of the songs will be ones that we all would listen to together - which makes them way more fun to listen to!

30 Day Challenge: Plans I Made...and Broke

I think that the biggest plans I've ever made and then broke involved school and city dances. When I was younger, it was a normal thing to get a group of friends together to go to the school dances that were every few weekends, or to the dances that were put on by churches where I live that happened every second Saturday of every month. However, it was a big deal to then break up for slow songs (there were only a few played) to dance with ..... BOYS *dramatic gasp*!!! For the most part, it was more of a popularity thing than it was a romantic interest thing. If you were asked to dance by a boy, that automatically made you super cool in the eyes of your peers.

I myself am a terrible dancer and an all around awkward person, so when it came to slow dances I wasn't comfortable. My friends are all really fun, and I loved the process of getting ready for the dances and being able to hang out with them, but I hated having to stand by myself during the slow songs and feeling like they defined me when it came to how cool I was viewed at school.

There were several times when I'd get really excited and make plans with my friends to get ready for and go to the dances, but then I'd remember the slow songs and come up with a reason to get out of going. I figured that if I avoided the dances, and the slow songs, that no one would be able to place me in the social hierarchy because they wouldn't know if I would have been asked to slow dance or not.

Now that I look back on it, I wish that I was more confident in myself to where I was able to have a good time with my friends at the dances without worrying about how my peers saw me when a slow song was put on. The point of the dances were to build community bonds and friendships at school, not to prove worth and help create social classes.

If there's ever something that you try to avoid doing because of how others might place you or think about you, I think you should go for it! It's better to take the leap than to look back on it and wish that you were brave enough to do it at the time.

YouTube Yoga

My first semester of College, I took several yoga classes from the school and I absolutely fell in love with yoga! However, I couldn't continue to take classes because they didn't offer any that fit into my class schedule. I started looking at different options for doing yoga on my own, which is what led me to check YouTube! I found Yoga with Adriene (https://www.youtube.com/user/yogawithadriene) near the beginning of March, and it's been my go to channel for doing dorm room yoga!

No matter what your skill level or desired end result, she has videos that'll work perfectly for you. If you're a beginner, she has videos for you. If you want to lose weight, or help your digestion, or healing, she's got videos for you. You only have 15 minutes before you have to leave for work or class? She has videos that are 10-15 minutes long! You only have 25 minutes? She has videos that are 25 minutes long! She even has videos how to improve your yoga skills!

Not only does she have videos for everyone, Adriene herself is an amazing person to do yoga with! Her voice is soothing and easy to listen to, and she'll crack jokes or make funny analogies that make you feel more comfortable doing the yoga. For me, when it comes to doing more athletic things like yoga, I typically feel uncomfortable or embarrassed about my low skill level, but when I'm watching her videos for my yoga practice I don't feel that way at all!

I've been doing her Morning Yoga Routines videos for March, and I've been loving them! I don't so them in the mornings because I have classes, but they help me to stay energized and awake and less stressed after I'm out of my classes before I start working on my homework. My mom has been doing her Yoga for Beginners videos because she is a beginner, and she's learned so much! We both are feeling the benefits of yoga and an appreciation for such amazing yoga youtube videos.

Be sure to check out Yoga with Adriene and let me know what you think of her videos!

30 Day Challenge: An Adventure I Hope to Have

I'm sorry this post is going up later than usual! This post is a harder one for me to write because I have so many things that I hope to do in the future... I want to go to France, as I talked about in a previous post, I want to be able to travel all over and to be able to get married and start a family!

I do consider getting married and having a family as an adventure because there's no telling what's going to happen or how things will truly work out. When it comes to having kids, I hope to have 4 kids, an even split of 2 girls and 2 boys, but I know that it may not work out that way, which is part of what makes it so exciting.

More recently I've been planning for the Summer that's coming up here really soon, and hoping for some adventurous things to happen. I've also been tossing around the idea of double majoring here at college or if I want to go to Graduate School or not... Anything involving schooling makes my life an adventure because I'm unable to plan more than a few weeks in advance. Much like this past year of schooling where I had a hard time figuring out where to live and what classes I wanted to take and where I would be able to work.

Ultimately, one of my huge goals is to work with Animals, and as anyone who has pets or works with animals, every day is an adventure. You never know what's going to happen or what moods the animals are going to be in. The care of animals makes me really happy, but you never know how long animal care will take you to get through in a day because some animals may need more care than others on different days. I probably shouldn't start talking about animal care... Hahaha I'll get excited and then this post will be way too long and not at all about adventures!

What are some adventures that you hope to have? I don't have any specific adventures that I'm dead set on having happen anytime soon... Do you? Let me know!

30 Day Challenge: In 5 years...

This post is actually really hard for me to write because I have a hard time looking that far into the future. I have a few basic things I hope will have happened or that will happen soon after 5 years has passed.

I hope that I'll be finished with college by then, and working with Animals somewhere that I love (even if it isn't the local zoo in my hometown like I really want). Maybe I'll be married by then, because I'll be about 24 04 25 years old. I don't think that I'll have any children yet because, as of right now, that seems like something that's farther away than just 5 years for me.

It would be amazing if, at some point in the next five years I was able to make the trip to France like I've always dreamed, and hopefully a trip to my Boyfriend's home state so that I can meet his family and be able to see the different sights there that he's told me about in the past. I've very much looking forward to being able to see my friends do amazing things, and I hope that I'll be able to help them with their different endeavors over the next 5 years!

This may not be very surprising, but I also hope that I'll be a lot better at yoga 5 years into the future - I'll most definitely have a lot of experience with it by then! 5 years from now I really want to be able to still be blogging, even if the amount of readers for my blog hasn't gone up.

What do you think will happen over the next 5 years? Where do you think you'll be?

30 Day Challenge: The Taste of a Memory

I love to be outside, especially when camping! There's something about being among the trees in the crisp air that smells strongly of conifers and the water if we're by a lake or river.

One of my favorite memories is when one of my classes in High School took a Day Trip to a popular spot a few hours away from the City. There were some foothills that we were able to hike and look out over the water of the Lake, and there was a rocky beach where some of my classmates hung out.

Several people in my class went Fishing in this lake while we were there, and one of them actually caught a fish! Where I live, it's a very normal thing to catch and prepare your own food so we're well versed in food safety and things like that, so they started a fire (with our teacher's supervision) on the beach with some wood they found and prepped the fish to be cooked. We found a big flat rick on which to place the fish which we set on top of the fire after we got it going. Everything was going really well! The smell of a fire and fresh fish smelled amazing mixed with the smell of conifers. However... We hadn't worked out how to remove the hot rock with the fish from the fire after it was cooked!

Long story short, most of the fish didn't make it out of the fire, but the few pieces of the fish that did make it out were very bland because we didn't have any seasonings... The smell in the air made it worth it, and to laugh at everyone's attempts to pull the rock with the fish out of the fire!

3 Month Resolution Update

Resolution 1: Save up the money that I need to be able to pay for my Housing and Textbooks for the 16-17 school year on my own

I kind of already let you know how this one is going in my March Overview on Tuesday, but I'll go ahead and restate it. I've finally gotten past the training phase of my new job, so I've been able to go out on my own and really earn my paycheck! I've also been working out what I'm going to do over the summer - whether I'll be getting an actual job or doing an internship. If I get an actual paying job that would really help out when it comes to saving up my money for Rent and Textbooks, but I'm allowing things to just work out how they work out and I'll let you know what happens eventually.

Resolution 2: DRINK MORE WATER!!!!!!

In March I was AwEsOmE at remembering to drink water. I don't think I've ever been this consistent at drinking water; it's starting to really become just a part of my every day routine. For the most part, it feels really normal to be as hydrated as I am and it feels abnormal when I don't drink as much water (if I'm a few glasses short of my daily amount of water). The Plant Nanny app that I talked about in my last Resolutions Update has most definitely played a huge role in my being able to remember to drink the right amount of water every day to feel my best.

Resolution 3: Read at least 20 books by the end of the year

Every month I keep saying how I'm almost done with the book I'm reading... And this month it's no different! I'm almost done with the book that I'm reading! I also picked up a few new books that I want to read, and discovered a website where you can buy books from for really awesome low prices (I'm going to do a post about it, so keep your eyes peeled for that later on in the month!)

Resolution 4: Clean my Dorm Room every Saturday

This wasn't as easy for me to keep up with throughout March, which I think partially added to the stress and the lack of happiness that I felt. Overall, March was a hard month for me so cleaning fell to the bottom of my list.

Resolution 5: Stop Eating after 9pm

Just like the cleaning, I also ate quite a bit after 9pm just because I stayed up later most nights throughout March. It would be close to midnight and I'd get hungry working on everything that I had going on so I'd eat some popcorn or some other snack. I'm really hoping to be better about it in April.

Resolution 6: Snack less, eat actual Meals more

At the start of March I was beginning to run out of money on my school meal plan, so I tried not to eat as much in the cafeteria to string out how long it would last. For the most part, the food that I have in my dorm room is all just snack stuff so it was harder for me to eat actual meals because I had very little food to make meals with. Not to worry, I did put more money on my meal plan so I'm back to eating in the cafeteria like normal!

30 Day Challenge: Heartache

I really miss all of my pets! This school year has been one of the first years where I haven't had any pets to take care of and spend time with. I have a dog, a 10 year old shih tzu named LuLu, 3 Hermit Crabs named Speedy, Sheldon, and Baymax, a guinea pig named Pepe, and a 20 gallon fish tank with several different kinds of fish in it (It's hard to take photos of fish). Being a huge animal lover, I absolutely love caring for for all of my pets, and I can't wait to get back to them for the summer!
