Newest Playlist

photo from hqlines.tumblr

I was having a really hard time coming up with something to post about. I even tweeted asking for ideas! So I decided to go with an easy post today - the current playlist that I've been listening to on repeat every day! Not gonna lie, I've also been listening to the Hamilton Original Cast Soundtrack over and over again. Hamilton and this playlist have been my go-to music for weeks now. I hope you like these songs! Let my know if you like them, or if you also love Hamilton, or if you have any other music suggestions for me. I'll see you on Thursday!

Roommate Update - January 2017

If you want to know more of the background with my roommate, click HERE (that post also happens to have a lot of previous posts about my roommate linked to it as well)

Surprisingly enough, I haven't posted about my roommate since November! I thought it was about time to give you all an update of her latest crazy things that have been getting on my nerves. Basically, this is going to be a ranty/complaining post. (Sorry not sorry... Haha)

Since that post in November, one of the worst things that my roommate has done is leaving the toilet after clogging it. Yup - She actually did that. If we had multiple bathrooms I would have left her gross bathroom to be disgusting until she dealt with it herself, but because there's only one bathroom that we share (so there's only one toilet) I had to get it taken care of so that I'd be able to use the bathroom.

One of the services that we get because of where we live is a maintenance crew. They'll come fix appliances, change light bulbs, move furniture, and... Unclog toilets. I called them and had the man come - to the complete horror of my roommate. (I guess she was embarrassed about this man seeing what she'd done to this toilet?) He was really professional about it, and we got back the use of our bathroom. That should have been the end of it.

Unfortunately it wasn't... Not too long ago, she clogged the toilet once again. This time, however, she came and knocked on my door and told me that I needed to deal with it again. Seriously! She came and knocked on my door to tell me that she clogged it and that it was mine to get fixed! As if it was now my job to take care of it for her every time!

I looked her dead in the face and said "No, the number for maintenance is on the fridge, you can call them"

BOOM! Yes! She had to deal with it herself! It was a proud moment for me. I think that was the first thing she's done that's been good this whole school year so far!

Speaking of our bathroom... We have this really old kind of medicine cabinet with mirrors on the fronts of the doors. My roommate randomly broke off one of the two little doors! She left it sitting in between the two sinks - which is where is sits to this day! She claims that she'll call and get it fixed, but that has yet to happen.

I'm not sure if I've said before or not, but my roommate is basically nocturnal. She'll sleep all day and be awake (and NOISY) all night. I'm not sure how she's able to keep up with her classes, because as far as I can tell she hardly actually goes to them.

Most days, she wakes up around 7pm or 8pm after sleeping all day. Most days, I'm making dinner for myself in the kitchen under her room around 6pm. Without fail, if I'm cooking practically anything, she'll come down and tell me that I'm being too noisy.

Three days ago I took a pan out of the cupboard to make myself some chicken nuggets and it made noise because taking a pan out of a cupboard isn't a silent affair, and then I preheated the oven which beeped. I was putting nuggets on the pan when she comes barreling down the stairs in her pjs with messed up hair - her rage face happening - to tell me that I was "banging around" and being too loud.

I gave her a surprised face and said "Normally someone can make dinner at dinner time without waking up anyone. I'll remember this when you're banging around at 3am again."

Booyah.

She didn't complain about be being loud while making dinner since then. At least not so far...

I know I've mentioned her inability to take out the trash before, but this semester she's started buying more premade food that comes in a lot of packaging. Almost every 3 days BOTH of our kitchen trash cans are FULL and need to be taken out. I've tried to leave them, but she still doesn't do anything about it and it makes the whole apartment smell absolutely awful. I may have gotten her to deal with her own clogged toilet, and to not complain (hopefully) about me making noise while preparing my own food, but I have not been able to get her to start taking out the trash.

Let me know if you have any ideas about how I could convince my roommate that taking out the trash is something she should do!

I'll see you on Tuesday.

Snow and Ice - Photos

This feels like the longest winter I've ever experienced, and I'm so ready for it to be over! I hit a bit of writers block, and the best way to deal with it is to avoid writing all together and take photos instead... Haha

So here are some photos I took a few days ago of the snow and ice around my apartment. Let me know what you think about them, and about the snow!

This huge thing of ice formed in the bushes from the water dripping off of some really big icicles.

You can hardly tell where the sky ends and the ground starts.

Finding Friends (Blogger Friends)

One of my favorite bloggers of all time is Zoe Sugg (Zoella), and for a really long time she's been someone I've really looked up to. It's so inspiring to me that she started out with a blog sitting in her room back in 2009.

I don't think I'll ever get to that point with this blog, and I won't be upset if that is the case, but I've more recently been taking a lot of her blogging advice to heart. One of Zoe's biggest tips is to reach out to other bloggers and comment genuine comments on their posts as yourself.

This blog is a little over 2 years old now! For those 2 years, I was focused on creating content and learning how to effectively run this blog in a way that I'm happy with. Back around Christmas, I decided that I was finally going to reach out to other bloggers whose blogs I like, and take the time to comment on their posts and read their content.

For some reason, I had a hard time finding other blogs to be able to read them. When you google search for blogs, the ones that pop up are already well established and have thousands of readers. In order to find bloggers that I was looking for, who I would be able to make more a personal connection with, I went into the comments sections on those established blogs. People really frequently link their own blog in their comments so that people can check them out, which is exactly what I did!

I think one of the main things I was going for in doing this was creating a sense of community. I wanted to befriend other bloggers like me - be able to enjoy their content and (hopefully) have them enjoy mine as well.

Now that I've been finding and reading and commenting on blogs for about a month now, I wanted to share some of the blogs that I've really been enjoying!

Jimmy!

Good news, I got everything sorted out with the new tank! They're happy and swimming around as if nothing had even happened. I'm mostly glad that they didn't have to be in the jar for too long - it wasn't enough space for them. The new tank I got happens to look exactly the same as the one that sprung a leak, but it is from a different brand.

Jimmy made a really big splash in my post last Tuesday, and I was really proud of that photo that I got of him! That one photo took me a really long time to get, but it turned out so well I decided to try my hand at photographing him again. I took almost the whole card worth of photos, and these were the best ones that I got.

I tried a few different settings on my camera, and funnily enough the "sport" setting was the best one for getting photos of a really active frog!

Jimmy has been the best addition to Sebastian! As planned by my parents, the two of them get along perfectly. Sebastian has always been a fan of hiding in his tank, and Jimmy shares that talent with him, so when I look for them they're often hidden in different parts of the tank. Sometimes Jimmy will go over to Sebastian, or vice versa, and they'll look at each other for a while before swimming away. (I like to think that they're having little conversations, but there's not really a way for me to know that for sure)

There have been several occasions where I've gotten distracted watching the two of them swimming around. I have a cute chair in that window area that I'll often sit in while I work on homework or watch a movie, which also happens to be the best place to sit and watch them. They're really good company even though I can't cuddle with them like with my guinea pigs.

I'd love your feedback on the photos!

I'll see you on Thursday

Fish Tank Disaster!

If you saw my tweet yesterday, or read the title of this post, you have a pretty good idea of what this post is about...

Last night I had fed Sebastian and Jimmy, and was waiting for the sow I was watching to end before I called it a night and went to bed. While I was sitting, I started to hear this weird dripping. At first I thought that it was just rain, but considering how freezing cold it's been outside that didn't make any sense!

I looked over and saw water running off of the little table that my fish tank is on.

Crap.

I ran to get a towel and started mopping up the mess. While looking at the tank, I didn't see any damage or cracks where the water could be coming from. After the towel I was using got soaked through, I figured out that the water was coming up from between the glass and the black bottom of the tank.

I quickly put some of the rocks and water, as well as the moss ball, into this "big" jar I have before I started scooping water out of the tank and moving Sebastian, Jimmy, and Shellbert into the jar. Once they were safe and sound, I started getting the rest of the water out of the tank until there wasn't enough water for it to continue leaking.

I've been pretty stressed trying to find a new tank that's small enough in my area. For the most part there are only 20 gallon tanks or bigger that are left in stores. My dad helped me out, and called around to a few stores - he was able to find the last of the small tanks at one of the smaller pet stores here and have them hold it for me, so I'll be able to pick it up tomorrow!

For the time being, that part of my room looks like a big mess and the rug and carpet is all wet.

After I get the new tank all set up, I'll probably do a quick post tomorrow about it. This was definitely not something I wanted to have happen, but I'm glad that it wasn't left all night to leak - I'm not sure how good a shape Sebastian and Jimmy would be in if the water had gotten too low because of it.

Thanks for your concern! I'm glad everything is under control for now.

Second Semester Classes

It's been less than a week and this semester is already kicking my butt! I didn't just hit the ground running, I hit the ground sprinting - but I'm really out of shape so I'm just sweating and trying to keep up!

Okay... That may be a tiny bit dramatic...

Every semester, I always feel really overwhelmed right from the get-go. I think it's because the professors all go over the entire semester's worth of work that we're going to go through so we know what we're getting into. I always feel like it's too much - that I couldn't possibly be able to do it all.

One of the main things that I've learned while being in school is that there are a whole bunch of people who are willing to help. Professors, Teaching Assistants, Tutors, Advisers (they're not just for finding the right classes), as well as other students. Some of the best help I've gotten has been from people sitting near me during a lecture.

At this point, the weather has also been playing a big role in everything... I didn't like snow before, and I really don't like snow now! On my very first day of classes, I fell twice going downhill because the snow whisked my feet out from under me. Now, if that wasn't embarrassing enough, after hitting the ground I slid the rest of the way down the hills on my butt! Seriously! Later when I walked back past one of the hills I fell on and slid down my big butt mark was still there. It's a good thing no one can tell who you are based on a skid mark from your butt in the snow.

My roommate is still the same... Still as crazy as last semester. You can click HERE if you want to read up on all of that drama!

Even though this semester has me feeling really stressed and exhausted already, I'm really happy. I'm happy to be here, and to be studying what I love, and to be able to work hard to achieve something worthwhile. Although, it would be nice not to worry about money so much - but such is the life of a college student!

Have you gone back to school yet? What have your classes been like so far? Let me know in the comments! I'll see you on Tuesday.

Sebastian's Tank - Introducing Jimmy

After having Sebastian in a one gallon tank on my desk for a while, I decided to upgrade and give him a much better tank with a lot more space. I have a small filter and an automatic fish feeder on it to make sure that he's living somewhere clean while also being well fed. Previously in his life, Sebastian hadn't ever been in a tank with a filter, so the current created by it was too strong for him to be able to swim comfortably in it, so I cut off a piece of a luffa and put it over the end of the filter to diffuse the current so it's more manageable for Sebastian. I also have a moss ball, his same castle from before, and some fake foliage. Sebastian likes being able to hide, so he has plenty of hiding places in this new set up.

I have the tank on a little table with a lamp near my chair in my reading nook, so when I sit there I can see him swimming around. I'm not sure if he likes having me there because fish don't talk, but I certainly enjoy his company while working on homework!

For Christmas, I was really delighted to get an African Dwarf Frog (Jimmy) and a Black Racing Snail (Shellbert)! Even though Sebastian is an aggressive type of fish, he'll only fight with other fish, so the frog and snail aren't in danger at all being in the same tank with him. My little brother came up with the names after I spent a day trying to come up with some myself. This is their debut here on my blog!

If you have any questions let me know, I'll see you on Tuesday!

12 Month Resolution Update (LAST UPDATE)

Resolution 1: Save up the money that I need to be able to pay for my Housing and Textbooks for the 16-17 school year on my own

I did actually complete this one! I haven't actually purchased my textbooks for next semester yet, but based on the average costs of textbooks I've got enough to be able to buy/rent them! I'm really proud of myself, and in my ability to pay for this (mostly) on my own. I'm hopeful that I'll be able to continue to pay for my housing and textbooks while I'm in school.

Resolution 2: DRINK MORE WATER!!!!!!

I was at home for most of December, so I was really good about remembering to drink water. I also noticed that, on the days I didn't drink as much, I felt a lot thirstier more often. I guess my body is used to being hydrated and has started reminding me when I'm not drinking enough! I have to say that this was one of the best resolutions I could have made. Over the course of the year I felt a lot better being more hydrated.

Resolution 3: Read at least 20 books by the end of the year

Yeah... 8 books is not the same as 20..... This was the one resolution I wasn't able to keep up with. School is definitely the main reason I didn't keep up with it - especially since I didn't count books I read for school in my count.

Resolution 4: Clean my Dorm Room every Saturday

I kept up with this one in December, partly because I was at home for most of December... Hahaha
This resolution was really helpful at keeping me from getting overwhelmed. I'm the kind of person who would get so stressed about my schoolwork that all I'd be able to do is clean - which is bad because then I don't do the schoolwork that's stressing me out! I've been able to keep the place clean so that I don't have to worry about procrastinating by cleaning.

Resolution 5: Stop Eating after 9pm

Since I've been working in the booth 3 nights a week I haven't been as good about this one this past month... I get home around 9:30, so that's when I've been eating. The main reason I decided on this resolution was because I was getting "heartburn" which I later found out was my gall bladder. However, I think late night eating is a habit I don't want to have.

Resolution 6: Snack less, eat actual Meals more

This one was easier in December because I was at home for several weeks of it. When I was still up at school, I was okay about it, but a lot of the time I would go with quick foods that I could microwave rather than actually making meals... However, I think that in 2016 as a whole I was really good about making food and remembering to eat well. For a college student, I don't think I did half bad at it!

December 2016 Overview

For some reason I'm finding this particular overview the hardest to write out of the years worth of them that I've now written. I've been trying to come up with the right way to sum everything up, but I don't want to be repeating things that I've already posted over the course of the month, which you can go back and look at on your own if you're that interested anyway.

The main highlights were my finals week/end of my first semester as a sophomore is college as well as my new relationship going how I've wanted it to so far. I've also decided not to have resolutions for this 2017 year. I'm planning on working on myself and my health, but not in a pressured way like I think comes from having it as a resolution - I don't want to feel bad about myself if I'm not successful because I didn't live up to the goal that I set.

I'm really happy with the quality and the amount of photos that I was able to post in December! This new camera of mine has really been worth it, I've loved learning how to use it. Truth be told, I'm actually already trying to save up for a new lens!

At this point, I'm mainly just excited for the snow to be gone and the new year to really take off. I'm looking forward to my second semester classes (I'll do a post about them later on, so keep an eye out for it) and being able to continue working in the booths.

My life feels really mundane, but I've been really happy. I'm not sure if I'd be happier if I lived a more exciting life, but I'm content with where I am going into this new year. I'm definitely happy with the plans I have for this blog! Hopefully you'll be here to see them ;)

I'll see you on Thursday
