When You Don't Know What to Post

I know I'm not the only blogger to have a hard time coming up with something to write about. I've often hit a bit of writer's block and had to go searching for some inspiration. A lot of the time I'll go on Pinterest, but after a while you use up all of the good ones there.

For me personally, I'll try to write down my ideas when they come to me, even when I don't need to write them up yet, and then I'll go back through my list of ideas later (when I don't know what to write) and I'll actually go through with writing one of them.

Over the course of the 2 years that I've been writing this blog, I've gathered some tricks on how to come up with posts. If you use any of these, or are going to start using any of these, be sure to let me know! Or if you have any other tricks on how to come up with posts!

1. Look at other people's blogs.

Now I'm not saying you should copy someone else's work. What I mean by looking at someone else's blog is look at which posts of theirs you like the most. Do you love their Outfit of the Day posts? Do you love their rants? Stories? Posts with all photos? If you like outfit of the day posts on other blogs, maybe try one for your own. If you like story posts, maybe write up a story.

2. Google and Pinterest

Like I said, I'm a fan of using Pinterest. There are a lot of other bloggers and blogging magazines out there that have compiled various lists of post ideas. Often times I'll be reading through the lists when I come up with an idea that's a mix of s few of them, and it'll end up being a really good post!

3. Do an "Easy" Post

"Easy" posts are a great filler for when the previous tricks don't work. Posts such as a list of the youtubers you currently watch, or a list of the songs you're loving at the moment. Maybe a response post or two to a video or article or something that you have strong feelings about. Motivational or Inspiring posts also fall into this catagory - sharing quotes that you like or talking about people who motivate/inspire you

4. Tutorials

If you know how to do something, share it! A food you like to make, a hairstyle you wear all the time, a craft, etc. There are so many things that you may know how to do that someone else may want to learn how to do!

5. Podcast/Vocal Recording/Video

Something that I see suggested a lot online for other writers who have writer's block is to give up writing a post all together, and speak/record a post instead. I've thought about doing this many a time, but I typically chicken out... Haha

6. Brain Dump

I saved this one for last because I've found that, at least for me, it can lead to more frustration than just having writer's block. For a brain dump post, you basically just sit down and type up everything that you're thinking. Sometimes, when you go back through it, you can fix it up into a real post about something, but other times it ends up being a big ramble that no one would want to read... However, I do think that this is a great idea for when you don't know what to say, because you say everything instead.
