Life Update

Sorry this post is going up later than usual today, I totally forgot about it so I'm frantically writing this up while in the parking garage booth at work. It's a good thing they're nice and have wifi in here so I can get some things done in between rushes of cars!

Do you remember that post I posted a long time ago? You know, the one about having my Gall Bladder removed, and that lead to my post about one bad semester? Well my Fall Semester was actually pretty great! I had a hard time in my math and statistics classes, but that was what I expected going on. The great news is that my grades/gpa were good enough and so probation is off the table! I was so unbelievably relieved when grades went up after finals and I saw that I was for sure in the clear.

I'm hoping that I won't have any more surprise organ removals this upcoming school year, so my grades will continue to be good. Like I said in that post, it was only one bad semester.

As I mentioned in my hair update post, I made a surprise trip back home on the 19th! I got off of work at noon, dropped my apartment keys off at a friend's house so she could watch Phillip and Jimmy, and then I drove home as quickly as I was able to.

When I got into my neighborhood, I called my dad (who was the only one home at the time) and asked him to go look at something on the front porch for me. He jokingly said "You're here!" and I said "As a matter of fact, I am" before I came around the corner onto our street and I pulled into the driveway. He was so excited! He then had me pull my car into the garage, so that I could surprise my brothers as they got home because they wouldn't see my car.

All of my brothers were equally as excited to see me! We then decided that we were going to keep it a secret from my mom that I was back home. (She had been on a trip with my grandparents in a different state and would be arriving at the airport Saturday afternoon.) I went with my dad to pick up my mom and grandparents from the airport the next day - and as my mom said "The exit doors opened and she was standing right there waiting!".

I got to do lots of fun things while I was at home, and I spent a lot of time with my family. I had to drive back up to school for work on Tuesday (I had a post already scheduled to go up) and then I started back up again at work on Wednesday!

I mostly loved getting to see my guinea pigs, as well as my dog and fish. I made several trips to the pet store, because I can't help but spoil my pets - I love them so much.

As of right now, I'm still working and in my apartment by myself. My lease ends at the end of June, so I'll be going home for July, but I'll be back up at school in August!

My Favorite Skincare Products

I've been wanting to put this post up for a while now, and I've finally gotten around to it! I'm not being paid at all to talk about these products, they're actually my current favorite skincare products. Stick around, and be sure to let me know what you think of them too!

When I first heard about Micellar Water I was really skeptical. I didn't think that it would work as well as people were saying it did, and I thought that it would irritate my skin if I did use it because pretty much every product except for the one I was already using would upset my skin.

Once when I was at the store with one of my friends she convinced me to grab a bottle to try, and after I started using it I never wanted to go back.

It doesn't irritate my skin at all, and it does a much better job a removing all of my makeup than the product that I was using before. It also feels really nice on my skin, and there's no need to wash it off which saves me a lot of time!

Now I know it may not seem worth it because of the size of the bottle verses the cost, but one bottle does last a really long time. A little bit goes a lot way with this product, and it really gets the job done.

So if you haven't tried it yet, I would highly recommend that you check it out!

Now I'm one of those scaly people whose skin really dries out if I'm not paying attention. CeraVe makes many different types of lotions and creams for different levels of dryness, as well as a face specific lotion. When it comes to keeping my skin hydrated, this is the product that I reach for every single time. One tub like the one pictured above lasts me for an extremely long time, because once again, a little bit of this product goes a long way.

Another thing that's super great about it is that it's unscented. When put on already chapped or dry skin it doesn't hurt at all, which is a major plus. I also like that it's unscented because then I can wear a perfume and not worry about the two smells competing.

I personally prefer the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream for Normal to Dry Skin because I've found that it works the best for me. Especially since it's made for people with sensitive skin as well as dry skin, so there's no risk of irritation.

I had a hard time getting a good photo of this product because I've already used so much of it. This was a product that I bought because I felt kind of obligated to.. Haha Which sounds kind of bad. The sales woman was really excited about it, and she was sure that I would love it, and she was completely right. It's the Mary Kay Timewise Night Solution. I normally put it on before bed after I've put on my CeraVe cream, and I want up to such beautiful looking skin in the morning. Like with the other products, it doesn't irritate my skin at all, which is super great. I'd highly recommend this to someone looking for a some kind of night cream or serum. It's definitely worth the cost.

This is no surprise, but I love wearing lipstick, especially matte lipstick which can be really drying. When I'm not wearing lipstick and I'm trying to get some hydration back in my lips, my lip balm of choice is Dr. Dan's Cortibalm. It doesn't have any really color or smell, and to be honest it doesn't taste particularly nice, but when it comes to hydrated, healthy lips I always go for Cortibalm. It has 1% Hydrocortisone in it to promote healing in chapped lips in addition to other ultra hydrating products. Using this lip balm, chapped lips are a thing of the past, and I can wear as much matte lipstick as I want!

It's no secret that sheet masks, especially charcoal sheet masks, are really popular at the moment. Well, I jumped on the bandwagon! The Yes To paper masks are really cheap, and there are so many different types. Hydrating masks, soothing masks, acne fighting masks, etc. Plus they're a really good price! I've been doing them all the time, without any skin irritation, and I've been really enjoying it. There's nothing wrong with taking some time to put a slimy piece of paper on your face for 10-15 min of relaxation, especially when it helps your skin feel so nice!

I think a paper mask is the best way to go for a pamper evening because it doesn't require any rubbing or rinsing to take off, you simply remove the paper mask and throw it away. Paper masks are really easy too, and when they work as well as the Yes To masks you can't go wrong with them for a relaxing time.

I'd love to know what you think about these products if you've tried them, or if there are any other products you think I'd like. I'll see you on Thursday!

May 2017 Hair Update

A while ago, I got my hair dyed while my mom was visiting me, and I did a post about it - which you can check out HERE

As I said in that post, I love having my hair dyed. Previously I did a huge thing of dark blue/purple in my hair, but then I cut all of my hair off at once and I didn't dye it anymore. Since I've been growing my hair back out again I've been loving the color in it!

(Here's an old photo I found of how my hair looked when I was in high school when I had the purple in it)

As I mentioned in my last post, I'm planning a trip home to surprise my family. As of right now, I'm going to be driving back after I get off of work tomorrow which is really super exciting! Well, because I'm going back for my brother's graduation, there's going to be a lot of photos taken... Haha I wanted my hair to look nice in the photos, and to be able to see people that I haven't seen since last summer looking cute, so I went after my payday and got my hair dyed once again!

Below I have the photos of my hair so you can kind of see how it's changed and how the color faded out and everything. The photos are not edited at all, they're straight off of my phone!

I've really used the ChromaSilk Vivids hair dye, and it seems to be what works best for me and lasts the longest in my hair. The color I used in high school was the "Violet" shade, and the one I've had these last two times was "Wild Orchid". I don't know if it's just me, but I think that the Wild Orchid looks a little darker the second time - which may be owing to the fact that the stylist used almost an entire bottle of the dye! She really layered it on!

I absolutely love the color!

At one point I used a demi-permanent hair dye, but it hardly lasted two weeks in my hair. I was able to go back and get it redyed with the Chromasilk dye, which has always worked really well.

Let me know what you think of my hair, or about your experiences with hair dye. I'll see you on Tuesday.

Oh Yeah, Before I Forget

I know I already posted my last roommate update... But there was something I wanted to document.

When my awful old roommate moved out, she left behind a bunch of random stuff.

Her own small trash can in the bathroom, a pen, some boxes, dishwasher detergent, frozen vegetables, and... Half a cube of butter in the middle of her shelf in the fridge.

Yup.

Weird.

Lipstick Collection

As you may or may not know right now... I love lipstick. There's just something about wearing lipstick and having lipstick that I absolutely love and enjoy.

More recently, in my ipsy glam bag that I get monthly, I've been getting a lot of lipstick samples but I've also been buying my own lipstick. Over time, I've increased my collection by a lot, and I wanted to do a post on the lipsticks that I have and which ones I love and which ones could be better.

So if you like lipstick, stick around!

(I did my best to round up the links and prices, but not all of the colors I have are still available in stores/online.)

The most recent additions to my lipstick collection are these 6 Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip shades. I've heard so many good things about them, several of those things being from youtubers that I know and love, so I decided to treat myself and get some of them for myself to try! I have to say, I absolutely love them! The color payoff is amazing, they dry perfectly matte, and they don't smudge or wear off. I drank a can of soda and none of it came off onto the can or smeared around on my mouth. This is a date lipstick, for sure - if you're going on a dinner date or any other kind of date where lips are involved, this is the type of lipstick I would recommend because it's not moving after it drys on your face!

($6.00 for each one)

The Rimmel Kate Moss lipsticks were the very first lipsticks that I purchased for myself. It's no surprise that I love Zoe (Zoella), and one of her most worn lipsticks is Rimmel Kate Moss 107. I don't have that particular color because I didn't think it looked the best on me, but I did get several other shades that I really love. These are some really good quality lipsticks for the price, but they do wear off after several hours, and they do smear. Although if I want a lip color for a job interview or to wear to school, these are the lipsticks that I'll go for.

(I was unable to find the other shades online, I'm not sure if they were discontinued or not...)
(All are around $5.00 each depending on which drug store you prefer)

Out of this bunch of lipsticks, the ones that I like the best and wear the most often are the first three. Centerfold from Buxom, Passion from Revlon, and Pin Up from Ciate. They're really easy to apply, the color payoff is amazing, and I don't find myself having to top them up very often. I also think that I'm a little bit partial to them because they're liquid to matte lipsticks. With the Katy Kat Matte lipstick, this particular on is in the shade Cat Call, it's a really beautiful color but it's kind of hard to wear because it is such a bright orange tones pink. It also has the tendency to smear. The two Revlon Colorburst lipsticks that I have are really great when it comes to being able to apply them quickly, but they do smear and transfer really easily.

Centerfold (Buxom) ($21.00 for the full size)
Passion (Revlon Ultra HD Matte) (around $8.00 each)
Pin Up (Ciate Liquid Velvet) ($19.00 for the full size)
Elusive (Revlon Colorburst) ($6.00-$9.00 depending on the store)
Standout (Revlon Colorburst) ($6.00-$9.00 depending on the store)

These lipsticks are all really good, they just aren't ones that I find myself reaching for very often. NYX as a great selection of colors when it comes to their liquid suede lipsticks, and they're all a really good price, I just find them to be a little hard to apply. To me personally, they also feel kind of like a layer of plastic on my lips when I wear them. The two Tarte lipstick samples that I have are amazing quality, but because they're typically really expensive I choose not to wear them very often because they're too magical to wear every day! The Pacifica lipstick that I have was one that I used to reach for all the time because the color looks really good on me and it lasts a really long time. The only downside is the shape of the lipstick making it hard to apply, and the smell/taste is really not good. When it comes to the Pixi lipstick it is very similar to the Pacifica lipstick except the smell/taste is better.

I have to confess that I haven't actually worn the Mellow lipstick for more than a little while on my own because it's such an orange shade. Orange can look great on some people, but I do now think I am one of those people... Haha

Rose Naturelle (Pixi Mattelustre Lipstick) ($12.00 for the full size)

If you have any of these lipsticks, or have any lipsticks that you love and think I should try I would love to  know! I'll see you on Tuesday!

May 2017 Roommate Update - Last One

Previous Roommate Updates (In Order): HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE

I guess you could say that the main update that I have for you about my roommate is that she did buy trash bags. She asked me first if I wanted to her get them, but she did get them. And although she got the complete wrong size for her own trash cans, I've been making it work - you know, because I'm the only one who takes the trash out.

Speaking of trash, my roommate has been especially gross recently.

I take out the kitchen trash twice a week, one of those times being on Saturday. Now, I know that I do indeed produce quite a bit of trash, but I definitely do not produce the amount of trash requiring taking out two large trash bags twice a week.

My roommate only eats microwave dinners that come in a lot of packaging so the trash fills up really quickly and it smells completely terrible.

In addition to the smelly food packaging, she's been going through her canned food. The same day as I had taken out the trash, she opened a can of fruit, decided it had come bad, and poured the syrup as well as the rancid fruit into the empty trash bag. For some weird reason she rinsed out the can and then threw it away separately.

I had to take out the trash again because the smell was so bad, which was really frustrating to me.

We have a garbage disposal on our sink, so she very well could have put it all down the garbage disposal and then thrown away the can. But NNooOooOO... she had her dirty, crusty dishes piled high in the sink covering up the disposal!

More recently, she's been especially ashamed when she's had company over that only her half of things were really gross. In a small attempt to clean, she took a wet paper towel and ran it over everything. Nothing looks that much cleaner - it looks like everything was just spread around - but I guess it's a baby step towards being cleaner. If only she'd started with this at the beginning of the school year!

Over the course of this year, my roommate has sent me several nastygrams about throwing away old food before offering it to her. Moldy leftover muffins and bread, a hard as a rock brownie, an expired yogurt cup, etc. Of course I threw those things out while taking out the trash. However, more recently, she's started to ask me for my food that has started to go bad or is nearing its expiration date. In some cases, she's decided when something of mine had reached a state that I disapprove of and asks to have it.

For some reason, she also seems to have been monitoring how much of something I'm eating and how often. She'll typically use the frequency that I eat something as a reason as to why I should let her have it.

While I was at work, she texted me asking to eat my bananas because they were started to go brown and she didn't want to have to buy her own.

Knowing full well that my own bananas had a few small brown flecks on them, I didn't let her have any of my bananas. When they're browning is when they taste the best! Besides, what does it matter to her how often/when I choose to eat my bananas?

Normally I wouldn't be so up in arms about food - I know how to share, and I don't think of myself as a wasteful person, but when it comes to my roommate... She gets nothing.

This girl, asking me for food that I bought myself with my money, is the same girl who wouldn't let me borrow an egg. Or use her milk for breakfast because I was out. Or snag one of her granola bars when I was running late for class and didn't have time to get something. Geez, this girl even got mad at me once for putting her dishes away for her after I ran the dishwasher!

By the time you're reading this (May 9th) My roommate will have already moved out! Hooray!! I wrote this particular post in advance because the 9th is my brother's birthday.

She'll have moved out on the 6th while I was at work, so I came home to a nice empty apartment, happy to be on my own! When she originally told me that she was leaving on the 6th, I was boiling some hot dogs for lunch and she very abruptly was like "When are you moving out". When I told her I wasn't moving out until the end of June when the lease ends she said that she was leaving on the 6th. She then very angrily asked me if I don't like her and why, and that she's felt like I've been avoiding her! I was just like "Umm... I'm just making lunch for myself" and she kind of scoffed and went back up to her room.

I'm so happy to be done with her! Although I will have to clean her half of everything... It'll be worth it to have her out of here.

I'll see you on Thursday :)

Phillip

I know I already posted today, but I have an update for you. My betta Sebastian passed away a few days ago. He lasted about a year after I bought him from my local Walmart.

It hit me really hard because I was trying to take my final exams, and although I had thought Sebastian was on his way out I was really hoping that he would make it. I then had a fish shaped hole in my heart and in my fish tank.

After I finished all of my exams and was officially done with my classes today, I went to the actual pet store in the next town over to look at their bettas.

I wasn't sure what kind of betta I would get because they had several different types, but I was expecting to lean towards a Crowntail Betta because that's the type Sebastian was. However, the one that caught my eye that I absolutely loved was a Dragon Scale Betta.

I have named him Phillip.

Yes, I still have Jimmy and Shellbert. Phillip gets along with them just fine, just like Sebastian did. He was a little bit unsure about them at first, but since then they've gotten used to each other.

PiperCleo Jewlery Review

I ordered a necklace from the brand PiperCleo Jewelry (www.pipercleo.com) a few months ago, and I wanted to do a review for you guys of my experience with them and the quality of the necklace that I bought.

So PiperCleo has a large variety of Jewlery, but they also have tshirts, posters, phone cases, etc. For this specific review - I only ordered one necklace so I can't say if their other products have the same degree of quality.

The necklace I ordered you've actually seen already! In my photography challenge, one of the self portrait posts, I was wearing the necklace in the photo.

Pipercleo has a whole bunch of bar necklaces to choose from with lots of different things written or drawn on them, this just happens to be the one that I wanted.

I ordered it off of their website, and it took a total of 3 weeks to get to me. I personally wasn't expecting it to take such a long time, and for the last week before it was delivered I was worried that it wasn't worth it to have purchased this necklace. After I did get it, though, I knew it was totally worth the wait!

It's such good quality! The metal is really strong, and I haven't had any issues with the chain or the clasp on the chain like I do with most necklaces. I have no fear of it breaking it I accidentally get it caught on my jacket or hair, and it's not at all heavy to wear despite being a fairly thick metal bar. The bar its self can't be bent easily (I didn't try to bent it, but based on the thickness and the size and how often I've been wearing it it's not bendable, which is super great)

It came in a super cute box, which had a little pink tissue paper and a "Thank You" sticker.

When I opened up the tissue paper, the receipt was on top, and then there was the little cardboard jewelry box containing the card with the necklace on it!

The chain wasn't at all tangled and it was easy to take off of the card. I was really impressed with the quality of the metal as well as the clasp on the necklace (I've had issues with the clasps on chains breaking in the past). All in all it's amazing quality, I'm really happy with it.

I've been given a lot of compliments on it, which is a big plus as well!

When going for a bar necklace, I highly recommend PiperCleo. Their stuff is really good quality, and if you're willing to wait out the shipping time it's most definitely worth it!

Let me know if you've ordered anything off if this site before, or if you have any jewelry websites that you like. I'll see you on Tuesday!

April 2017 Overview

Oh my dear goodness... The month of April felt extremely long! For the most part I blame the fact that it was the last month of school... I went to the last day of my classes on the 28th and then this week I have all of my Exams. Wish me luck, I'll definitely need it!

Anywho, it's been a long time since I've written out a post. It's really nice to get back into it after editing and posting so many photos. As you have have noticed, I did miss several days during my photography challenge over the month of April, but I did most of them! It's the effort that counts, right?

April was really crunch time for me when it came to my classes. I pushed every last bit of energy and focus into my classes. I didn't sleep very much, I chugged a lot of energy drinks, and I spent a lot of time wanting to throw my computer at a wall.

One of the most frustrating things that happened was the school (who owns the apartment that I live in) decided to change their Wifi policy. They put up their own router for school wifi (the same wifi found on campus) at the apartment and turned off the regular boxes and such (I'm not a technology person) so that we could no longer use our own wifi router. I at first thought that this was all well and good until I found out that, on the school wifi, you can't connect a smart TV or a wireless printer to it.

This happened 2 weeks before the end of classes. There were 2 weeks left of classes, and the week of final exams, and I no longer could use my printer!

Someone in some office somewhere decided that, without notice, it was a good idea to change the entire wifi system, and to change all of the rules (like being able to have/use a wireless printer) 2 weeks during the most stressful time in a college students semester!

I had to run to the store in the middle of the night -because why would I be sleeping, and why would they make the official change during the day - to get a cable to be able to hook up my laptop to be able to print anything.

The least they could have done was let me know ahead of time! Or, you know, wait 3 weeks to do it in the summer when people weren't trying to get things done.

Throughout April I was also having many the roommate issues, but I have a separate post going up later this month about that, so be sure to check back!

In April I also started to plan a surprise trip home for a weekend to be able to go to my little brother's graduation from high school. That'll be happening near the end of this month, but I'm really excited about it! I keep thinking about how it'll go down - and how they'll react! I'm really looking forward to it, and looking forward to being able to see my guinea pigs again.

My guinea pigs have been doing really well! Although Pepe did get a start on a respiratory infection, but my mom got him into the vet really quickly and got the right medicine to get him back to normal. I was really sad about not being able to be there for it and to take care of him myself, but I knew my mom had it handled. I can't wait to get to see them! I've really missed my boys a ton!

One of my favorite things ever in April was the new Beauty and the Beast live action film (You know, the one with Emma Watson). I went and saw it in the theater 3 times over the course of April and I seriously want to buy it as soon as it comes out. If I have the money for it I most definitely will!

I love Disney movies anyway, and I loved the new version of Cinderella that they made, but this one seriously stole the show! The costumes, the music, the sets! I don't think they could have made it better if they tried.

April was also a time where I worked a lot of extra hours for my job. There were a lot of people who called in sick or who had emergencies come up, so I was stepping up to cover their shifts because no one else wanted to. I'm assuming because it was a stressful month anyway and they didn't want to spend valuable study time working someone else's shifts.

For the most part, I'm really hoping that I'll be able to get a day off soon because of it! That would be really great - a day off in the summer.

So yeah! April was a really stressful month that lasted forever, and I'm happy to be nearing the end of this semester and heading into the summer. What was your April like? I'll see you on Thursday
