What I Got For My Birthday 2017

November the 24th was my 21st birthday!! Hooray for me! I spent the day Black Friday shopping, and watching really bad Hallmark movies with my grandma. It was a really relaxed day, and I really enjoyed it! After all the craziness that was Thanksgiving, it was nice to have a day for me where I could choose what I wanted to do.

This post is going to be going through all of the things that I got for my birthday this year! I don't know id a disclaimer is necessary, but I want to state that I'm not making this post to try to brag or show off, I just wanted to do a post because I love seeing other people's posts like these. I'm just a bit nosy, I guess.

I got some gift cards, which are always popular with me! I typically save them for a rainy day or for when I've run out of time to make myself a lunch before I've left home. When people asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I would always say gift cards! They're easy, and I like to have them stored away. The specific ones that I got were for iTunes, Bath and Body Works, McDonald's, and Subway. I'm for sure excited to use them in the future!

When my mom was visiting another state, she saw these sticky tabs in a store and said she had to get them for me! They're all different animals! That way I'll have cute little animal faces sticking out of my books (both textbooks and personal/fun books). They're relatively small, and their adhesive is surprisingly strong so they do really stick! I've already left my mom a few notes stuck to mirrors with these, and I absolutely love them!

This one is kind of an inside joke... It's a Present shaped Bath Bomb from Lush! I got a Present for a Present! I don't think I really need to talk about this one very much, it seems as though everyone who cares about Lush would already know what this is and how great it is.

On the more practical side, I got a new backpack in my favorite color. My old backpack was really falling apart - I had sewn it back together in several places, and duct taped over other places, and it really wasn't suiting its purpose anymore. Even though I didn't pick out this backpack for myself, I would have picked this exact one if I did! It's the perfect amount of pockets, and no need for sewing or duct taping!

It's no secret that I'm a BIG fan of Dutch Bros. Every year I've gotten their $10 seasonal mug, and I was really bummed about not being able to get one this year (because I go to school in a state without Dutch Bros), but my younger brother was ahead of the game and got me this year's mug for my birthday! I've already used it several times, and just like with the others that I have, I love it!

Several weeks ago when my parents were visiting me, we went through a lot of department stores and I fell in love with a set of flower pots. My mom, being the super sneaky person that she is, got them for me along with some plants to put in them! I've got it set up on the bookshelf by my bed, which is near a window, and it makes me so happy to have some green living in my room to brighten up the space. I'm not the best at keeping plants alive, but I'm hopeful that I'll be able to do so with these. That way I'll keep some green throughout the Winter months!

This keychain has a bit of a long backstory to it... So bear with me on this one, I'll tell it as briefly as I can without skimping out too much. When my boyfriend and I first started dating, I had a really bad day that ended with me locking my keys in my car in the parking lot outside of my apartment. I called my boyfriend, who had already heard a lot about how bad my day was. He was at work, which was why I called him, because part of his job at our office involves unlocking and jump starting cars for students. For some reason my car wouldn't unlock very easily, but he managed to pull my wad of keys out through the door so that I could unlock my car that way! In doing so, the trinket on my keychain was broken off, and I told him he owed me a new one. Not so jokingly he said he would get me one for my birthday with Putin's face on it! So when he handed me the keychain, I was really happy that it had a unicorn, and not Putin on it. He's a good egg, but sometimes he worries me! Hahaha

The same brother who gave me the Dutch Bros mug also gave me this really nice knit scarf! I had only said once in passing that I needed a white scarf for some of my outfits, and he remembered when he went to the store to get something for me. I'm beyond happy with it, I'll for sure be wearing all the time this winter.

Last but not least, I got a new sweater! It was one that I tried on when I was with my mom and really liked. It was funny when I opened it because my mom said "I betcha it fits so well you'd almost think you tried it on first!" It's soft and comfortable, and I've already been wearing it almost every day. I think that people will get sick of seeing me in this sweater I've been wearing it so much. There's nothing cozier than a really nice sweater.

Is College Too Much? (A Life Update)

This is a long overdue post - I've had the ideas for what to say in it for quite sometime, but I haven't really been able to get a straight thought pattern about it. I haven't posted for a while, and I figured the best way would be to jump right in and hope that my thoughts align themselves in a way that makes sense as I go along.

I'm in my third year at college studying animal sciences, double majoring, and it's taken me until my third year to really realize just how much time and energy college takes up. This semester I've been taking 17 credits (18 is the maximum that you're allowed to take in a semester) while also working part time, and volunteering to help take care of rabbits that are being used as a part of a behavioral study. I have about an hour to myself during the day, and then the evenings after my classes and work are done.

I love what I'm studying, and I love being kept busy and having so much to occupy my time, but at the same time I think it would be nice to be able to get more time off/more time to myself.

Jokingly, I've started to tell people that I'll be at this school forever because I'm trying to do so much and to learn as much as I can while I'm here. I don't really want to be here forever. In fact, just thinking about having to stay for an additional year after my "senior year" is really frustrating to me. It seems as though everyone I know will be graduating and leaving me behind here, even though I know that's really not the case.

After gaining this "I'll be here forever" mentality, I started looking into additional things that I would be able to do while I'm here to help fill in the time. Things like adding Minors onto my two majors, or if it would be possible to add in a third major rather than just minoring.

Taking so many credits, and working, and helping with rabbits, plus my own relationship and pets, I've been feeling like it's all too much at the same time as feeling like I should be doing more.

I realize that that probably doesn't make very much sense... But there it is.

Everything that I've been thinking and feeling reminds me of a vlogbrothers video from not too long ago, when they had a guest content creator made a video for their channel. I keep going back to it and thinking about it, because it so perfectly sums up what I've been experiencing in a much better way than I've been able to explain it. I'll include it here at the bottom, so if you don't really understand what I'm talking about in the body of this post it'll hopefully clear everything up.

Maple Holistics, Amazing Shampoo, and a Free Product Program

At the end of September, Maple Holistics reached out to me because they wanted to share their amazing Tea Tree Oil Shampoo with me, and I jumped at the chance! I've been using this product for over a month now, and I can't recommend it enough.

My first impression of this product was "Wow, this smells amazing". On the side of the bottle it states that one of its main functions is to "clear away dead skin and soothe scalp blemishes", which I thought would be great if it really lived up to that. It also is Sulfate Free, which is a huge plus for me, and it has more than 98 amazing, natural compounds to help get your scalp looking and feeling great. All in all, my first impression of this product was really positive.

When I first started using it, I followed the directions on the bottle (use a quarter sized amount, leave for 2-3 minutes, rinse and repeat) and I didn't pair it with any of my regular products. I wanted to get a good idea of what this shampoo was like all on its own, and what kind of effect it would have on my hair and scalp.

Let me tell you - it made my hair feel amazing. Typically my hair gets really dry and is hard to brush if all I use is shampoo, but that wasn't the case with this product, my hair was easy to brush and didn't have its usual spindly texture. After using it as directed for a few weeks I noticed a significant difference in the overall quality of my hair - my hair wasn't as dry, it wouldn't get frizzy, overall my hair looked shinier and felt a lot softer. I don't struggle a whole lot with dead skin or blemishes on my scalp, but I did notice that the little bit of dead skin that I was experiencing was completely gone, which was seriously amazing! It totally lived up to what it stated it would do on the bottle.

After a few weeks of using the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo on its own, I wanted to see what would happen if I were to replace it in my regular hair care routine so that I could see how it would work with other products.

I don't think my hair has ever been this soft in my entire life. Or this healthy.

My regular products that are meant to hydrate and strengthen my hair paired with this Shampoo that improves my scalp health and the appearance and texture of my hair is basically the most magical combination that leads to perfect hair every time.

An 8oz bottle of this shampoo typically costs $25, but right now it's on their website for $8.95! Which is a steal!! You can check that out right HERE.

If you're not already 100% sold on this product, Maple Holistics has a Free Samples Program! All you have to do is fill out a simple form online, and you'll be sent a free sample of any of their products. Of course I love their shampoo, but they have a wide variety of products that you'd be able to choose from if you aren't in the market for a new bottle of shampoo. You can check out their Free Samples Program HERE.

You won't be disappointed!! I'll see you on Tuesday

October 2017 Overview

I know I've missed quite a few posts... In my last post I had talked up upcoming posts for the rest of that month, but of course I missed posting those, so I'm moving them to be posted this month - so don't worry about missing anything!

Everything has been really hectic in my life at the moment, mostly because of school but also with the upcoming Thanksgiving Break and my travel plans to go home for both the holiday and for my birthday (which is on the 24th).

I had mostly exams all through October, them being the last exams before my final exams in December that mark the end of the semester. I also had quite a few papers and things due as well, which didn't really help me with the whole "running around like a chicken with its head cut off" thing that I've been doing.

October came with a lot of changes in my life.

At work, everyone pretty much quick in the front office except for me and one other girl, which left us with a heavy load of work to do all on our own when we were there between classes. However, we were lucky enough to hire some new people really quickly. They aren't fully trained yet, but based on the work that they've been able to do so far it looks as if they're going to be some great workers. I'm mostly looking forward to when I won't have to keep training them, and can go back to my regular work load.

I also had to come to come to terms with the fact that I won't be able to take internships that are outside of where I'm going to school because of being unable to leave my guinea pigs for long periods of time. However, I'm hoping to be able to get more involved with research that's being conducted by Graduate Students at my school so that even though I won't be able to get as much field experience I'll be getting research experience and a lot of animal care experience. Right now I'm helping take care of some rabbits that are being used for a behavioral research study, and I'm really enjoying!

I also came to understand that in double majoring I'm trying to do a lot more than most of the other students at my school, which also means that I'll be at the school for a longer amount of time to be able to accomplish what I'm planning to. After coming to terms with the fact that I'm probably going to be at this school forever, I decided to try for a Forestry Minor as well... It's only one additional class, and in terms of forever I'm sure that I'll have the time for that one extra class. So when I'm all finished at the end of forever, I'll have two majors and a minor, and hopefully a leg up when it comes to finding a job doing what I love.

Alrighty... On a lighter note, I watched a lot of new things in October. I watched La La Land with my roommate (It was awesome, I highly recommend it), the second season of Stranger Things, and the new Netflix Original Series called Alias Grace. I loved both of those Netflix shows, so if you're looking for something new to watch I would for sure check them out. I could write about a post about them and what I think about them if you'd like! Just let me know!

For me, October was jam packed, but all in all it was a really great month. I'm pretty excited about getting a break, and being able to sleep, and being able to take some time for myself in the upcoming Thanksgiving Break from school. Bot to mention the fact that it'll be my birthday.. Haha I'll be sure to do a post afterwards about what I got for my birthday.

I hope you all had a great October! I'll see you Tomorrow for another new post!
