My Pets - An Update

As promised, here is an update on all of my pets! I've currently got the smallest amount of pets that I think I've ever had in my life.. But I absolutely love them! Now, this update doesn't include the 20 gallon fish tank that I have back at my parent's house or my family dog. This is just an update on the pets that I have with my at school. If you have any questions about them be sure to let me know!

This is Pepe, he's my big handsome guinea pig. He's about 5 or 6 years old, so he'd really getting up there age wise for a guinea pig. Not too long ago I mentioned that he had given me a bit of a health scare. One morning I woke up and his breathing was really really bad. I immediately thought that it was a respiratory infection, which he has had once before. I contacted various people, and vet students, and got their opinions on it, but after a few hours, his breathing returned to normal. I added some Bene-Bac to his food to help give him a probably much needed boost, and since then he's returned to totally normal behavior and breathing! I've been keeping a really close eye on him to make sure that as soon as anything changes I'll know about it and be able to take him to a vet right away. He's still very food motivated, and he absolutely loves his floor time because he likes to see what he can get away with chewing before I notice.

Hamilton is my other handsome guinea pig. He's about 1 or 2 years old, and he takes a while to warm up to people but once he has you'll never meet a kinder guinea pig! I don't have a whole lot to update you on about Hamilton, because he's very consistent and sweet. I recently discovered that he seriously loves cucumber to the point of taking slices of cucumber away from Pepe! Hamilton is secretly really mischievous, and he somehow gets into everything that he's not supposed to, so I have to keep a close eye on him whenever he's out and about for some floor time!

Phillip. In a previous post I let you guys know that Phillip had gotten a fungal infection, and I had started treating him for it right away. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, he did not make it. At the time, I kept thinking that I should've done more, and that I should've noticed sooner, but in reality I wouldn't have known he had the fungal infection earlier than I did, and I wouldn't have been able ot do more than the treatment that I was doing.

I can't remember whether or not I updated about Jimmy? But I wanted to do a quick update to make sure that you guys knew what was going on. Back in August of last year, when I first moved into my current apartment, I set up my fish tank first thing! Then at some point between then and when my roommate moved in on that Saturday, he disappeared. I have no idea where he ended up! It's only about a 2.5 gallon tank, so it's not like he had a whole bunch of places to hide out. There's a pond outside of my apartment, so I sometimes joke that he ditched me to go live in the pond, even though I know that's most likely what happened.

So, with only Shellbert left in my little college fish tank, I went to the pet store to get a new betta fish. However, because of the timing, all of the betta fish were sold out everywhere in my town and the next town over! So I decided to go for a different kind of fish! I got two Zebra Danios, and I absolutely adore them. I named them Quasimodo and Esmeralda, keeping up with the disney themed name of my college fish tank fish. I couldn't get a very clear photo of them, so I took a short video instead so that you've be able to see what they look like a lot better.

All of my pets are doing really well, and I love having them and taking care of them! At the moment, they're all I have! There's the potential of another guinea pig in my future, but at this point there's nothing set in stone yet, but of course as soon as I know I'll be sure to update you all.

I hope you enjoyed this post! I'll see you on Thursday!

Hunt For Stability

Back in December I did a post called Stability. So you'll want to go back and read that if you haven't so that this post will make a bit more sense.

I have found a little bit of stability in my guinea pigs, because I know that they'll be there when I wake up, and when I come home from school or work. It's really nice to know that I have them whenever I go back to my apartment. Regardless of what the day held, I can go to my room and know that they'll be happy to see me, and that I'll be able to spend time with them.

My fish tank is another thing that has provided me with some feelings of stability. Once a week I spend the time doing some regular maintenance, and once a month I do the more in depth maintenance. I also have a routine of when I feed them, which I look forward to every day.

This upcoming February, the housing applications for my apartment will be posted, so I'll be able to apply to remain in my current apartment for next school year. Which means I won't have to move!! I'm really excited about not having to move everything all over again, I can stay in one place, where I'm already settled.

When it comes to school and my classes, I haven't really built up a consistent routine yet, but I'm sure that once I do I'll feel a lot more stable. A daily routine would be a great thing to help me continually reach a good level of stability in my life.

However, not everything has been going my way since that first post. Monday the 22nd, after I was done for the day and back at my apartment. I got broken up with. Over text. It was something that I had kind of seem coming based on the mixed signals that he was sending me, and the overall lack of interest in spending any more time together. It still really hurt though. I hardly slept, and the next day was brutal trying to go back to school and function as if nothing had happened. Luckily my friends and coworkers have my back and have been really kind and supportive of me as I've been getting through this. I'm starting to feel like it's good that the relationship ended because it wasn't the same as it was in the beginning, and there's no use in dragging out something that isn't all around amazing.

At one point I went to the store and was berated by all the Valentine's day stuff, and I went to buy a small tub of ice cream (Ben & Jerry's Non-Dairy Fudge Brownie), and the clerk said that I must be the happiest customer in the store because I was buying ice cream! Which, although I know he probably meant well, a little bit made me want to punch him... Which I of course didn't actually do! I just bought my ice cream and went home.

I've also been having some weird issues with sleeping more recently, which makes life really hard when you're trying to be a functional adult during the day. I've basically been living off of energy drinks, which I know is really bad for me. I've invested in some melatonin to see if it'll help me get back onto a more regular sleep schedule, but I'm hoping I won't have to continuously take it to be able to sleep.

Although I'm still not where I want to be, I've been looking for the small things that are more permanent in my life to find more of that stability that I crave so much. I'll be sure to update more along the way as I hunt down more things for more stability.

I'll see you on Tuesday

My Record Player

Earlier this month I posted about what I got for Christmas this past year (check out that post HERE) and I said that I would be doing a post about my record player! So here's that post!

I was really surprised by the record player, because normally I'm with my family members when they get me Christmas presents so I already know about them, but I had no idea with this one! I actually had opened one of the records first... So I knew it was probably in there somewhere, and I was so happy when I saw it! It looks like a little suitcase, and it opens up into an awesome record player. It had options to change the pitch, volume, and to turn on the bluetooth. There are also little knobs to adjust the speed that it spins.

At this point, I only have two records, but I'm really excited about growing my collection because I absolutely love listening to records!

The only downside that I really see to this is that it doesn't fully contain the record, so you have to be sure the top won't close down over the record. Other than that, there's nothing that I don't like about it!

If you have any questions about it, be sure to let me know! I'll see you on Thursday.

This Week - Life Update

This week has been really crazy for me so far! I don't want to miss a post this year as per my New Year's Resolutions, so here I am!

One of the main things that's been going on this week is that the window on my car broke while partially rolled down. I was able to get it into a shop to get it fixed on the same day, but it turned out to be a bigger deal than I thought... I would've left it as it was until I was able to go home next (although a drive that long with the window partially down wouldn't be super ideal), but my area has been getting almost nonstop rain, and I was worried that my car would be broken into because the window was down enough for someone to get their arm through.

Although I live about a 15-20 minute walk from campus, it's been really frustrating to me not having my car! I guess you don't realize how good something is until you don't have it anymore! I was meant to get my car back today, nice and fixed up, but unfortunately the wrong part was sent so they were unable to finish fixing it. The correct part is meant to get there tomorrow morning, and then I'll have my car by the afternoon.

Not having my car has been hardest for me because most days I need to be at work by 6:45am, which means that I need to get up earlier to be ready in time to walk the 20 min to my office from my apartment. With all of the rain, it's not very ideal.

I've also been pretty worried about Pepe, who I know is in the beginnings of a respiratory infection. At the moment, I have no means of transporting him to get to a Veterinarian, so I'm trying to keep a close eye on him to make sure he doesn't get any worse before I'm able to get him the medicine that he needs to get all healed up.

I'm working on a long, photo filled update about all of my pets, so at that point I'll hopefully have a healthy Pepe and a lot of other good news as well.

This week, I've been the most excited about the athletic class that I signed up for and started doing through my school. It's called "20/20/20" and I've really enjoyed it so far! It's 20 min of Spin, 20 min of Rowing, and then 20 min of strength and core work. It's much more intense than the yoga classes that I've taken in the past, but I've actually been really enjoying it! On top of all the extra walking I've been doing this week, I feel like I've got a great start to the year and to my health goals.

This week has also been the first true look into all of my classes, and so far it all seems to be going pretty well. I'm doing another 17 credits, and working part time, along with continuing to take care of the rabbits. I think that I have a pretty good handle on everything. I've got my planner totally filled out with due dates, exams, and homework reading assignments. I'm hoping that this semester will be easier for me to keep up with so I won't have the end of the semester panic like I did this last semester.

All in all, I wouldn't say that my feelings of stability have improved at all. Things seem to continue to go wrong, but I'm doing my best to hang onto the few things that are going well, and to my guinea pigs who I know will always be happy to see me (especially if I have food for them).

I'll see you on Tuesday!

What's In My Bag

It's been a while since I've done a post like this... So I decided to update you all on what's in my bag because it's been really packed full since I was home for Christmas Break! I love getting a change to peek into someone else's world when it comes to the things they carry with them, so hopefully this will give you some insight into my little world!

Here's what the inside of my purse looked like before I emptied everything out for this post. I did go through everything after taking it all out, so my purse isn't nearly as packed or unorganized now! I always joke that I have a TARDIS purse, because I can fit a crazy amount of stuff into it despite its size.

The first thing in there, and the main item that I typically keep in my purse at all times is my wallet! I got it back in high school, and I've loved using it! It's the perfect, functional wallet for me.

Taking up the most space in my purse are a whole bunch of receipts, mostly from going to the movies. I've got a super cool thing about movies to share with you all later on that I've totally been loving! I'm planning on doing a post about it soon, so stay tuned for that!

I had an iTunes gift card that I got for Christmas and thought that I had lost, but it was just trapped in the black hole that is my purse... Hahaha

A whole bunch of coins were rattling around in the bottom of my purse!

My hand cream and lip balm of choice at the moment... The hand cream is from Bath and Body Works. I'm actually almost out of it! I'm planning on going back to the shop soon to get a new one.

I had a spare hair clip (this is the only kind of hair clip that works in my hair, so it's the only kind I use!) and a travel container with some spare pairs of earrings in it in case I get out and about and forgot to change my earrings that day. Sometimes I forget that I have these in my purse, or I forget which earrings I have in it, so it's not really the greatest of ideas.... Hahaha

I had a whole bunch of these small Scentsy samples of different scents that they carry. I actually got them from my dentist's office! There was a basket of them in the waiting room, so I snagged some of the ones that I thought smelled the best! Since then they've just been living in my purse... Until now, I guess!

There we go! That was everything that I had in my purse! Were you surprised by anything that I had? What do you have in your purse?

I'll see you on Thursday!

My Daith Piercing

It's happened! My piercing "collection" has increased by one more.

On Saturday the 6th, I spent basically the entire morning in my car driving back to school. I listened to a lot of really great musicals that I love to help the time go by quicker, and I stopped in the bigger towns along the way to stretch and check on my boys.

After getting back to my apartment and unloading all of my things and getting my boys back in their usual enclosure, which they were really happy about, my friend picked me up and we headed over to our regular piercer! When we went in, my friend knew what it was that she wanted, but I had no idea... So of course I went first!

I sat in the chair, and I thought about my options and what I thought would look the best with the direction of my piercer.

I wanted some more pizzazz on my right ear because my inverted bar is so jazzy on my left ear! After a few minutes of thought, I decided on getting my Daith pierced! I thought that it would take up some of the empty space on my ear, and it would add the much needed pizzazz that I was looking for! I also think that it adds some symmetry to my right ear because it adds some focus on the middle on middle of my ear instead of just the top or bottom of my ear.

Keeping up with the past posts about my piercings... Here's a quickly snapped photo from my phone!

I'm really head over heels for this piercing, it's by far my best piercing experience so far. Now.. I've had an awesome time with my other piercings, but this one was especially good.

This particular piercing hasn't hurt AT ALL!! It hurt when the needle initially went in, but it didn't when the jewelry was put in, and it hasn't hurt at all after the fact. I was able to sleep on that side, on that ear, the same day that I got it pierced without any issues. I've been able to wear my headphones without any issues. And it's barely bled or been "crusty" like my previous piercings.

I've also noticed that I actually forget that I have it! Granted, part of that is because it's new, but I haven't had any residual pain or issues that would make me much more aware of it being there. The only times that I really think about it are when I'm checking it out in a mirror, when someone compliments me on it, or when I'm cleaning it.

Even though I didn't have it planned ahead of time, I seriously love this piercing! It's been the best/easiest piercing that I've gotten!

As always... I already have a plan for which piercing I want to get next! My first two were planned, my most recent two were unplanned, my next one will be planned. I'm super pumped about it already, but I'll have to wait until this one is less fresh to be able to go back in for new piercing. So stay tuned for the next segment of my piercing saga in another post in the future!

I'll see you on Tuesday!

Going Back to School - Semester Plans

I'm feeling really good about this upcoming semester. I've got all of my textbooks ordered, all of my schools supplies are ready, and I'm excited about the classes that I'm taking!

I'm taking two classes that will be particularly hard for me, one is a class that I have already retaken previously, so I'm really hopeful that I'll be able to take it this last time and be completely through with it. My classes are more specific to my majors now, so I'm looking forward to getting more time and experience doing what I love like I did this past semester.

Going along with my new year's resolutions, I have signed up for a spin class that will be twice a week, which is out of my comfort zone, but I'm still really excited about starting it. There are weekend pole classes, and some day this year I hope to get up the confidence that it takes to sign up and attend one of those classes. I have also started to make a list of the foods that I want to get and try. I'm hoping that I'll be able to find the options that I want in my local stores! Fingers crossed!

One of my friends and I have already planned to go together to get some new piercings! We have particular ones in mind, but we're both open to what our piercer suggests. The last time I went with something he suggested I got my inverted bar, which I really love! I'll most definitely put up a post about whatever it is that I decide to get.

I have a few posts planned for the semester that I'm looking forward to, the main one being my upcoming post about what I got for Christmas! I'm also planning on a few more life based posts in this new year, which I'm excited about! I think that 2017 really put me through the ringer after an already tough 2016, so I'm ready to show 2018 who's boss and come out on top.

I'm also looking forward to some of the things that I need to update all of you on... So stay tuned!

I'll see you on Tuesday!

December 2017 Overview

Oh dear, I'm pretty late putting this post up! The very first post of the New Year, where one of my resolutions is to never miss a post, and I'm posting it later than usual! Today's been really packed for me, and although I planned I writing this up and posting it sooner, my time got away from me.

December started out with me finishing up my first semester of my third year at college. Basically, my brain was totally fried, and I was beyond ready to go home and start off the Winter Break by sleeping for almost a whole day. I had to work in the morning I was to drive home, and then I raced back to my apartment and loaded my guinea pigs into my car, and I started the drive back. My boys did great driving down, they didn't have any troubles! However, because they were in their travel cage (it's much smaller than what they're used to because I have a compact car so their regular enclosure doesn't fit) they started to get sick of being so crammed together. My dad helped me work out a nice place for them to be while we were there. I also brought my 2.5 gallon fish tank along with Phillip and Shellbert, and they did really great on the drive as well (Although Phillip was stressed at first, he calmed down quickly once we arrived and he got properly set up once more).

The beginning of the break began with frantic cleaning to get out of the house for showings (because my parents were trying to sell their house). One of the showings we were only given an hour of notice beforehand, and we were all away from the house! We had to rush back to get everything cleaned and tucked away, and then we had to get out of there with all the pets (not including the fish) to wait until the showing was done.

However, after a long time of trying to sell, my parents finally sold their house on the 19th of December, and shortly after they put an offer on a new house and were able to purchase it. This meant that we no longer had to frantically clean and hide all evidence of us living there for showings, but we still had to leave frequently for the various inspections that happen with selling a house. At this point I'm really looking forward to not having to hide away everything for strangers to come walking through and judging everything. I'm also really looking forward to houses, and everything involved with buying and selling houses, being the ONLY topic of conversation my parents choose.

I spent a lot of time with my grandma, who I love dearly, watching Hallmark movies that she recorded and saved to watch with me while I was home for the break. I also went on many trips to the pet store to get various things for my fish as well as for my guinea pigs.

The biggest mishap was Phillip getting a fungal infection, and having to  rush to get the correct medication to treat him. So far he is doing a lot better, which I owe partly to how quickly I noticed the change and began treatment for him. I'm a little worried about making the drive back to school with him, since he's been through so much and is obviously lacking in health, however I'm hopeful that he will be perfectly okay in the end.

Christmas was amazing, and I was really happy with the things that I received! I'm planning on doing a post about the things that I got for Christmas after I've returned to school and have my good camera again. I was mostly happy to get to spend so much time laying around and eating good food with my family, in addition to seeing them all open and love their presents that they were receiving!

Throughout the entire month, I did my best to try to recover from the school year, and to get a better grasp on everything. I don't necessarily think that I succeeded, but I'm starting off this year feeling pretty hopeful!

I'll go back to school this Saturday, and then my second semester and work starts up on Monday! I'm honestly looking forward to this semester, however I'm not particularly excited to be going back to work... I guess we'll see how it goes.

Happy New Year! I'll see you on Thursday.
