"Textured Wave" from Ulta Salon Review

For a few weeks I really hated my hair. I hated how straight it was, how long it took me to style it in a way that I liked, and I honestly debated trying to get up extremely early every day to try to curl my hair before going to work! So I did a lot of fancy googling and watched a lot of YouTube videos and came to the decision that I wanted to Perm my hair... That's right! a PERM!

I was really worried that I would walk out with Farrah Fawcett/80's hair so I made sure to look at a whole bunch of different salons and what they offered and whether or not they had someone who was experienced in doing perms. I settled on going to the Ulta Salon inside the Ulta Beauty near where I live for their "Textured Wave" service (which is what they call their Perms). After I booked my appintment it was set and I felt like there was no turning back!

The above photo is what my hair looked like prior to getting the perm. I had some leftover bleached strands from when I had the bright pink in my hair, but it was pretty grown out, and my hair was as straight as straight can be.

I explained to my stylist when I went in that I wanted some life added to my lifeless hair, and that I was going for a beachy waves kind of look rather than a full on curl or ringlets. I really emphasized that I didn't want ringlets!!

My stylist was really nice and extremely professional - she seemed to understand exactly what I was talking about when I said what I wanted - and then she got the rollers and the chemicals and started getting my hair ready. Going in, I had a good idea of what was going to happen and how long the process would take, but what I wasn't prepared for was the smell! The chemicals are really strong and have an almost sour nail polish smell!

After letting my hair process and rinsing out the extra chemicals, my stylist dried my hair and had me check it out in the mirror. In the photo you can see how it looked right after I got home from the salon.

I'm going to be honest, I really paniced and freaked out about it at first. It was a much tighter wave than I was thinking it would be, and I was worried that my hair would be crunchy because that was how it felt. Everything that I looked at said that a perm would always look crazy the first 48 hours because it taked 28 hours for the chemicals to really work and then after that when you're able to wash your hair again it looks how it's going to look until it grows out/gets cut off.

This next photo is from about 2 weeks after getting the "Textured Wave" and I like it a million times better thatn I thought I would and than I initally did when I got home. I'm happy to say that my hair doesn't feel crunchy at all, and there's a lot less damage to my hair than I thought there would be. I was also really happy that the waves looked much more relaxed and beachy, which is what I wanted!
As far as my review goes, I think that if you're planning on going to Ulta for the Textured Wave I would say that it's important to remember that those first two days will be mostly panic and worrying that you just ruined your hair, but after that it'll be worth it. Mostly just be prepared for the smell of the chemicals they'll use on your hair! I also found that, with the minor damage, it was really easy for me to straighten my hair back to how it looked before I permed it - I wanted to see if I could just in case I wanted that option for some reason.

If you're looking for some life for lifeless hair like me then I would highly recommend it!

What do you do for a fresh summer hair style? Have you ever considered getting a Perm/Textured Wave before? Let me know in the comments - I'll see you on Thursday!

June 2018 Overview

June was... Full. That's really the only way that I can describe it! I was running between home and work and answering questions at events for work and going to the store and sleeping. I watched a TON of Grey's Anatomy (I know, I'm super late to that party, but I just started watching it on Netflix and I'm totally addicted), slept on the couch a lot, and spent a lot of time relaxing (all my time outside of work, pretty much).

My roommate was gone for a majority of the month of June, so I got to spend most of the time I was away from work in my apartment alone. I had a lot of fun letting Pepe run around my whole apartment (with supervision, and I pig-proofed everything), which he seemed to really enjoy as well! He particularly liked sitting under the kitchen table even though there were lots of places for him to get some coverage. He liked to watch out the big glass doors where our balcony/bird feeders are, and I think that the best view is from under the table.
(In the photo he's kind of hard to see against the dark carpet, but you can spot the white on his forehead and then make out the rest of his little body.)

On the 27th of June, I celebrated 5 years with that handsome guinea pig! I know I've said before about his background, so I'll link it HERE. I wasn't able to have Hamilton as long as I wanted, but I am so happy that I've been able to have Pepe for so long. I have no idea how old he really is, but at this point I'm hoping that because it's already been 5 years that he's really immortal and I'll be able to keep him around forever! Haha That's extremely wishful thinking, I know!

I will be getting another guinea pig soon... I'll be sure to do a post all about it, so be sure to watch for it.

On to the rest of June!

A big part of my job this summer because I've worked there for about 3 years now is to go to the information meetings for the groups of incoming students to answer their questions about transportation/parking. There's a meeting every 3-4 days with a new group of students, and although the questions are typically all the same, I actually really enjoiy it! They're typically outside because the weather has been so beautiful so it's a great chance to get out of the office and to interact with a bunch of strangers that I never have to see again!

I have a really hard time in most social situations, and it was awesome for me to be able to talk to a lot of people without forming any ties and to have the only topic of conversation be something that I've known for almost 3 years. Plus the meetings are really only an hour long each, so it's quick and easy.

Another thing that I loved in the month of June was being able to see so many new movies! I waited 14 years for Incredibles 2 and I gotta say... It was totally worth the wait! I also saw and LOVED the movie Ocean's 8 - it was everything I hoped that it would be and more. Yes, I went to the movies in addition to binge watching a ton of Grey's Anatomy... Haha I had a full month of great entertainment content!

Hmm... I've been trying to think of more to add to this post but like I said at the beginning, the whole month felt full but I didn't actually do very much, so I'll leave it how it is!

I'll see you on Thursday
